Global Organic Textile Standard(GOTS)

GOTS, or Global Organic Textile Standard, is one of the most rigorous certifications in the global textile industry. It mandates strict guidelines for ecological and social responsibility throughout the entire production process. Key criteria for this certification include using organically certified natural fibers, avoiding pesticides during cultivation, enhancing living and working conditions for workers across the supply chain, adhering to chemical limits, and ensuring transparency and traceability.

Natural fibers

Global Organic Textile Standard “Organic – in Transition”

Items bearing the Global Organic Textile Standard “Organic – in Conversion” seal are crafted from cotton sourced from fields transitioning from conventional to organic farming. This conversion typically spans three years and, by adopting organic and environmentally friendly practices, it contributes positively to the health of farmers, soil quality, and biodiversity in the growing regions.

Organic  Content Standard (OCS)

The Organic Content Standard, or OCS, ensures that a product contains organically certified cotton. It provides full traceability throughout the production process. Products with the OCS 100 seal are made from at least 95 percent organically grown materials. At Ernsting’s family, we predominantly use this seal, as most of our OCS products meet these criteria. The OCS Blended seal shows the proportion of organically grown materials in a product (at least 5%). All products with the OCS Blended seal in the Ernsting’s family collection contain only organic cotton, with no blended fibers.

Cotton Made in Africa (CmiA) – Empowering communities through self-help

We back the Cotton Made in Africa initiative, which focuses on improving working and living conditions for small farmers and workers in ginning plants. This initiative emphasizes ecological, social, and sustainable principles. We source CmiA-verified cotton and use the red CmiA label in exchange for a licensing fee. The income from these licenses is reinvested by Cotton Made in Africa into projects across sub-Saharan Africa.

Fairtrade – Fair By Conviction

Fairtrade is dedicated to enhancing the working and living conditions of small farmers and workers in producing countries. The Fairtrade seal represents rigorous social and environmental standards. We are proud to be part of the Fairtrade network through our products made from Fairtrade-certified cotton, supporting cotton farmers with stable incomes, support programs, and local community projects. By prioritizing eco-friendly cultivation practices, we also contribute to environmental protection.

Global Recycled Standard(GRS)

The Global Recycle Standard (GRS) allows companies to document the precise amount of recycled material in their products and monitor its journey through the production process. This standard applies to all recyclable materials. To comply with GRS requirements, a product must contain at least 50% recycled content. Additionally, the standard sets specific minimum criteria for environmental management, social responsibility, and the use of chemical additives.

Synthetic fibers

Recycled Claim Standard (RCS)

The Recycled Claim Standard (RCS) ensures accurate documentation of the amount of recycled material in a product and allows for traceability throughout the production process. Depending on the level of recycled content, products are labeled with either the RCS Blended logo (for a minimum of 5% recycled material) or the RCS 100 logo (for a minimum of 95% recycled material). Unlike the Global Recycle Standard (GRS), the RCS does not impose requirements on chemical additives.

Trust in tested quality

Quality Tested For Pollutants

Children are our future, and their well-being is of utmost importance to us. Therefore, we ensure that our baby products adhere to even stricter standards than the rest of our range. Each item undergoes rigorous testing, either being certified according to Standard 100 by OEKO-TEX® or evaluated by an independent testing institute. You can identify these products by our “Quality tested for harmful substances” seal.

Safety across the entire range

Standard 100 By OEKO-TEX®

The quality of a product isn’t always immediately apparent, as chemicals in the fabric are not visible to the naked eye. This is why the OEKO-TEX® seal serves as a trustworthy assurance of rigorous testing for harmful substances throughout all stages of textile production, going well beyond legal requirements. Products bearing this seal adhere to these stringent standards to ensure excellent skin compatibility and comfort for you and your loved ones.

 Step by step safely

Bureau Veritas Quality Assessment

Our children’s shoes undergo thorough testing for harmful substances by the reputable, independent institute Bureau Veritas, exceeding legal requirements. The Bureau Veritas Quality Check (BVQC) label on the shoes ensures that you are purchasing footwear for your children that meets the highest quality standards.

European product safety

CE Certification

The CE marking signifies that a manufacturer confirms to European authorities that their product meets the relevant European product safety directives. CE stands for Communautés Européennes (European Community in German) and is commonly used for toys and electronic devices. Products lacking the CE marking cannot be sold within the EU market.

Certified safety

GS Mark

The GS mark stands for “tested safety” and applies to toys, electrical and household appliances, and lighting. It is granted only by accredited testing laboratories and signifies that the manufacturer meets all legally defined safety requirements.

Our claim

Longevity

For our items to effectively reduce emissions and prevent resource waste, they must remain attractive and durable for our customers over time. Our textiles are designed to resist bleeding, fading, and shrinking, ensuring long-lasting wear. This commitment is reflected in our customer complaint rate of less than 0.5 percent.

The eye for details

Quality Control

In addition to external chemical testing conducted by reputable institutes such as Bureau Veritas, SGS, Intertek, or  Rheinland, our quality control teams conduct random, detailed tests on each product during production and prior to each shipment. Products that fail these tests are promptly removed from our range. Testing for toys and jewelry is managed by specialized external providers. Our quality control team collaborates closely with the quality development department. The testing process that an item undergoes, such as a jacket, is illustrated here.
